Pair of Hemp scrolls

Exploring textile art: direct printing in grey cedar with a Katazome technique.

The support is a very thick hemp fabric, weaved in a narrow roll, probably designed to be used for grain sacks. An antique found in one of my treasure hunts.

I love the fact that such a modest fabric now stands proud in a rather elegant room.

The pattern is freely inspired from the dentelles de Montmirail on which the house stands. It continues from one panel to the next, on each side of the fireplace.
